Brown cloth (rebound w/new endpapers), 354 pp., illus. Former owner name on title & her address stamp on several pages. First few pages waterstained on outside edge. Basic Tx. Bks #189-Dobie called it the "best of all books dealing with life in early Texas." Smithwick came to Texas in 1827 & became a blacksmith in San Felipe. Run out of town in 1831 by vigilantes, he joined the Army in 1835 & fought in the revolution. He served in the Rangers & lived with the Comanches for awhile. His work is one of the most anecdotal of all early Texas Memoirs. Greene's 50 Best Tx. Bks. #15
