Dixon was in the Battle of Adobe Walls in 1874 where the buffalo hunters fought a large group of Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Commanche & Kiowa. Later scouted for Gen. Miles. Congess later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor to the survivors of Adobe Walls.
