Books and bookselling have been a large part of my life. With the explosion of digital books and conversion of books to digital files I can't help but to look back at the past and the great number of Librarians, Collectors, and Customers that I have dealt with. Since Hurricane Katrina I have been especially cognizant of the large number of very scarce, rare and collectible books that have been destroyed in flood and storm waters from natural disasters. Today I sit having watched the devastation from Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana and Irma in Florida and wait to see if Hurricane Maria will hit the US and cause even more destruction. In these disasters more and more of these precious collectibles are being destroyed. I can only hope that those who are the keepers of these treasures continue to support the actual printing of books. If you have been affected by the recent devastation I sincerely wish you and your families the best and pray that your suffering is short lived and your recovery is speedy and complete.
